Relay for Life is a life-changing event that helps communities across the globe celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. Hospice of Washington County has a team that participates in this event. Our team members are made up from our staff, their families, volunteers, hospice families, and community members. November 11th, observed in the United States in honor of veterans of the armed services and in commemoration of the armistice that ended World War I in 1918. In 1954 it was renamed from Armistice Day and given the added significance of honoring veterans.
Sunday, November 22, 2015 at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington, Iowa. Service begins at 2:00pm. This memorial service was created to honor all our community members that have passed away over the past year. Your loved one did not have to be a Hospice patient in order to participate in the event.the service will feature a video tribute dedicated to our community members that have passed away over the past year.
Please send two pictures of your loved one to be included in the video tribute. Include your loved ones full name, their date of birth and of death. All photos should be sent or brought to Hospice of Washington County, by Monday November 16th.
Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope if you would like the pictures returned by mail or you can pick them up at the Hospice of Washington County office.

On display from November 27, 2015 until after the new year at the Washington Public Library, in Washington, Iowa. Families are encouraged to donate an ornament in their loved one's honor to be displayed on the tree each year.

Tickets available at the door or at Hospice of Washington Counties office. We have several different types of soups, fresh baked breads, and homemade deserts & pies. Our annual silent auction is not to be missed. We have several one of a kind items, hand crafted quilts and other hand crafted goodies. Several businesses in the community donate items for the auction and we have so many generous community members and hospice families that donate items to the auction as well. We start the bidding at 4:15p, the highest bid takes the merchandise. You can pay for merchandise in cash, check and credit cards - American Express, Visa, MasterCard and Discover Cards.
Our annual quilt for the quilt raffle will be unveiled at this event! No spoiler here folks, come on out to see the beautiful quilt for 2016! Every year we say they can't get any prettier, but each year we are proven wrong!!

National Volunteer Week is about taking action and encouraging individuals and their respective communities to be at the center of social change – discovering and actively demonstrating their collective power to make a difference.
National Volunteer Week, a program of Points of Light, was established in 1974 and has grown exponentially each year, with thousands of volunteer projects and special events scheduled throughout the week.
